Building for it
A project is made for one toolchain, picked when you start it. For this board you can use two of the four:
| Toolchain | |
|---|---|
| Arduino (C++) | Every board, every widget and every peripheral here. The most control, and the most to set up. Start a project |
| MicroPython | The JD9853 needs its maker's own register load, and lvgl_micropython has no driver for it: its ST7789 driver sends a load of its own. The Arduino and ESP-IDF exports drive it. |
| ESPHome | ESPHome has no model for the JD9853, and this export does not write a panel's own register load into ESPHome's mipi_spi component. The Arduino and ESP-IDF exports drive it. |
| ESP-IDF (C) | Espressif's own framework: esp_lcd, the component registry and idf.py, with nothing of Arduino in it. Start a project |

Also on the board
- I2C (GPIO 18 / 19) - SDA GPIO 18, SCL GPIO 19
- SPI (panel and TF card) - SCK GPIO 1, MOSI GPIO 2, MISO GPIO 3
- IMU - QMI8658, at 0x6B, on I2C (GPIO 18 / 19)
- SDCard - SD card, on SPI (panel and TF card), CS GPIO 4 (arrives switched off in a new design)
The TF card slot shares the panel's SPI lines (SCK 1 and MOSI 2; MISO 3 and CS 4 are its own), so it arrives switched off: switch it on with the eye beside its name under Hardware > Devices. - Battery - analog input on GPIO 0
- BOOTButton - input on GPIO 9
The preset adds these to the Hardware tab with the board, so a sensor can go straight onto the connector.
Check your revision. Nobody at LCD Wizard has had this board. The Arduino export for it compiles, and nothing in this preset has been seen on the panel. Pins, the panel's register load and the touch panel's read are from Waveshare's own demo code (ESP32-C6-Touch-LCD-1.47-Demo.zip, read 2026-10-18) and the schematic. The panel is a JD9853 on SPI (SCK 1, MOSI 2, CS 14, DC 15, reset 22, backlight 23 dimmed by PWM): no graphics library has a class for this glass, so the export drives it as Waveshare's Arduino demo does, through GFX Library for Arduino's Arduino_ST7789 with Waveshare's own register load, a 172 x 320 window at column 34. Touch is an AXS5106L at 0x63 (SDA 18, SCL 19, INT 21, reset 20), read by the sketch; a finger held on a key stays held between its reports. The QMI8658 IMU (0x6B) shares that I2C bus; its interrupts (GPIO 5 and 6) are not used. The battery is read on GPIO 0 through a 200K/100K divider, so the Battery input reads volts. The BOOT button is GPIO 9 (Waveshare's pin table says 8; their own firmware and the schematic say 9). The TF card slot shares the panel's SPI lines (SCK 1, MOSI 2; MISO 3 and CS 4 are its own, and the schematic pulls all four up with 10K), as Waveshare's ESP-IDF factory firmware runs it beside the panel on the C6's one SPI controller. It arrives switched off; switched on under Hardware > Devices, it is started on the panel's bus once the panel has, at 20 MHz - compiled, and not yet read on a board. If a touch lands mirrored left to right, Invert X under Hardware > Touch is the setting to change; if the colours come out as a negative, untick Invert under Hardware > Display.
Designing for it in LCD Wizard
- Choose Waveshare ESP32-C6-Touch-LCD-1.47 on the Hardware tab (or use the button above) and every pin on this page is filled in. The export writes the sketch,
lcd_pins.h, the GFX Library for Arduino configuration,lv_conf.handplatformio.ini- a project that builds for this board as it comes. - The AXS5106L is capacitive and needs no calibration. The firmware resets it and checks it answers on every boot.
- The backlight is dimmable: give a slider or a button a Set backlight action.
- Screens are designed for 172 x 320 px in either orientation, with LVGL 9 or LVGL 8.
The parts
JD9853. Waveshare's 1.47" 172x320 touch boards. Driven through GFX Library for Arduino's ST7789 class with Waveshare's own register load.
AXS5106L. Waveshare's ESP32-C6-Touch-LCD-1.47.
ESP32-C6. No PSRAM. SPI displays only in practice.
GFX Library for Arduino. Moshi Liu's library. Best QSPI/AMOLED and RGB coverage. Configured in code.
The pinout on one page
Every pin above, laid out to print and keep beside the bench. Generated from this preset, so it says exactly what the designer writes into lcd_pins.h.
