Building for it
A project is made for one toolchain, picked when you start it. For this board you can use two of the four:
| Toolchain | |
|---|---|
| Arduino (C++) | Every board, every widget and every peripheral here. The most control, and the most to set up. Start a project |
| MicroPython | The MicroPython export drives a quad SPI panel on the ESP32-S3 only so far. |
| ESPHome | Its maker runs the panel under an orientation byte of its own, which this export does not write yet - the picture and the touch would not agree. |
| ESP-IDF (C) | Espressif's own framework: esp_lcd, the component registry and idf.py, with nothing of Arduino in it. Start a project |

| CS | GPIO 15 |
| RESET | PMIC ALDO3 (power chip supply) |
Touch pins
CST9217 / CST9220: I2C address 0x5A, 400 kHz, shares the display bus, X and Y swapped, X inverted.
| Signal | Pin |

Also on the board
- I2C (GPIO 8 / 7) - SDA GPIO 8, SCL GPIO 7
- IMU - QMI8658, at 0x6B, on I2C (GPIO 8 / 7)
- RTC - PCF85063, at 0x51, on I2C (GPIO 8 / 7)
- PMIC - AXP2101, at 0x34, on I2C (GPIO 8 / 7)
- BOOTButton - input on GPIO 9
- KEYButton - input on GPIO 10
- PWRButton - input on GPIO 18
The preset adds these to the Hardware tab with the board, so a sensor can go straight onto the connector.
Check your revision. Pins from Waveshare's demo code and schematic (https://github.com/waveshareteam/ESP32-C6-Touch-AMOLED-2.16). 1) 02_Example/ESP-IDF-v5.5.3/*/main/user_config.h has BSP_LCD_CS GPIO_NUM_5 and BSP_LCD_TOUCH_INT GPIO_NUM_15, the reverse of the Arduino user_config.h (CS 15, INT 5). The ESP-IDF code never uses those two defines for the panel: main.cpp builds DisplayPort with its defaults (cs = 15, tp_int = 5). The schematic (J4 pin 4 = GPIO15, pin 17 = GPIO5) and the Arduino header were believed. The panel has no reset GPIO: its reset line is pulled up to ALDO3 of the AXP2101, so the export starts the chip before the panel and resets the panel by switching ALDO3 off and on, as Waveshare's own code does - compiled here, and never seen on a panel. ALDO1 (the ES7210's and the ES8311's analogue supply, 3.3 V) and ALDO2 (the speaker amplifier's enable, 3.3 V) are switched on when the chip starts, as Waveshare's code has them. The speaker amplifier has no enable GPIO, so it is on whenever the board is: nothing mutes it between sounds. The ES8311 is set to +12 dB (Speaker gain on Hardware > Audio): its amplifier has a fixed gain and the speaker was very quiet at 0 dB. The default was set by ear on 2026-10-20. Waveshare runs this glass under orientation byte 0xA0 with the picture starting at column 0, and the preset does the same: the byte is on the Display tab, and a turned design is turned over it. Waveshare's LVGL examples for this board send 0x30 instead (its XiaoZhi board file and the S3 board send 0xA0), with the same touch arithmetic; if the picture comes out mirrored against the touch, try 0x30 there. The glass has rounded corners whose radius Waveshare does not give, so the designer draws them square: keep what matters out of the corners, or set a corner radius on the Display tab once it is measured. On the board and not in this preset: TF card: it is wired onto the panel's own quad SPI lines in a way the export cannot share with the panel. Brightness is a command to the
Designing for it in LCD Wizard
- Choose Waveshare ESP32-C6-Touch-AMOLED-2.16 on the Hardware tab (or use the button above) and every pin on this page is filled in. The export writes the sketch,
lcd_pins.h, the GFX Library for Arduino configuration,lv_conf.handplatformio.ini- a project that builds for this board as it comes. - The CST9217 / CST9220 is capacitive and needs no calibration. The firmware resets it and checks it answers on every boot.
- The panel has no backlight pin: it is its own light, and its brightness is a command. Give a slider or a button a Set backlight action and it dims as a backlight would.
- Screens are designed for 480 x 480 px in either orientation, with LVGL 9 or LVGL 8.
The parts
CO5300. The AMOLED controller on most of Waveshare's 1.32"-2.16" boards, round and rectangular. Brightness is a command, not a backlight pin.
CST9217 / CST9220. Waveshare's 1.75" and 2.16" AMOLED boards.
ESP32-C6. No PSRAM. SPI displays only in practice.
GFX Library for Arduino. Moshi Liu's library. Best QSPI/AMOLED and RGB coverage. Configured in code.
The pinout on one page
Every pin above, laid out to print and keep beside the bench. Generated from this preset, so it says exactly what the designer writes into lcd_pins.h.
